Pizza Recipe

Pizza Recipe

The recipe to make pizza is really simple but there are some variables that I always forget to consider when I make the dough. After so many years of experience my conclusion is that you need 1dl of water for everyone invited. But the point is that this rule is valid if we are talking about men and that anyway you need to add 0.5-1dl for every italian coming (man or woman, doesn’t make any difference here!)
So, the basic for 3 persons is 3dl.
If they are italian, you need at least 5 maybe 6dl ;)
But if they are finnish, then one needs to remember that they don’t know how pizza should be eaten so you have to put -0.5dl for every finn invited.
But I always forget this rule. Maybe I just want to pizza-civilize Finland: you can’t eat less than 1pizza each, this is a basic rule and it’s also the difference between kids and adults in italy – you are an adult when you can order and finish one pizza all by yourself!
More water means more pizza and I end up eating pizza the all weekend.

Fifty Percent

December 6th, 2007 by claudio

Fifty percent

August 29th, 2004 me, Daniele and Ivan came for the first time in Helsinki, Finland. Before definitely moveĀ  here I just came again couple of times just to check how cold was the winter. Anyway from the summer 2004 I have started counting the days spent in Finland and Abroad (Estonia, United States, Sweden, America, Vatican City). Today, December 6th 2007, my parents wedding anniversary and Finland 90th independence day, the days spent in Finland equal the days spent in Italy. So from now on I will be one of these people that talks about a kind of Italy that doesn’t exist anymore, except in my mind. I couldn’t say anymore that in Rome there is always traffic, no parking places, at the post office you have to queue and cars are parked in the middle of the street. This was the Rome that I knew. Something should have been changed, right?

Talking seriously: this 50% is a bit scary but it’s also a great satisfaction: I am still here.

Happy Anniversary :)

finnish wedding

December 3rd, 2007 by claudio

Finnish wedding

We were in Oulu, north Finland, for the wedding and I promised to tell you something more about the way weddings are done in Finland.

Well, it’s easy: nothing happens.

First, in Finland they dont’ kiss. The groom says yes, the bride says yes and nobody is kissing. And even more incredible (from the italian point of view) there’s no one screaming KISS, KISS, KISS. Cause it’s not just the groom kissing the bride, in Italy it’s everybody kissing the bride. You even kiss a bride that you randomly meet on the street, it’s for bringing them good luck (even if the groom sometimes might be not so happy about it).

But let’s understand the kissing thing: finnish are private person and they never kiss in public.
Do you want to know something about the food?
Here a typical finnish menu compared with an italian one.

Wedding Menu

The red crossed words are Ruoka and Kahvi: they mean Food and Coffee. In italy we have this long list about everything you are going to eat and here in Finland they just tell you that at some point there will be food and later coffee.
And soon you discover that everything, and not just the list, will be practical and concise. So you won’t get the standard amount of food of an italian wedding (a never ending amount of food) but a practical and concise version: a dish with something on it. So be prepared cause at the end of the party you need to go home and cook ;)

The Bride and the Groom ;)

Oulu

November 23rd, 2007 by claudio

Oulu

I’m going to Oulu for the first time this weekend. Oulu is a city in the north Finland (near Sweden) where you can go to study or probably to work and doing some Nokia stuff. We are going cause Johanna’s friend is getting married. Someone told me that finnish wedding are incredibly boring. The kind of parties that are not parties at all: no music, nobody’s dancing, maybe not even talking. Could be fun if someone gets drunk and then does something stupid. But as I told, never been there myself…we will see. And considering that I am also vegetarian and finnish cousine is about meat and fish, probably there won’t be anything to eat. It will be a good occasion to practice finnish language.
Pictures coming next week, we are back on Monday. I need to buy a new belt cause dress’ pants are too large: 10 points for my diet.

About my Tempur

November 16th, 2007 by claudio

About my Tempur

I told you already that I bought this Tempur pillow. And I said also that it was expensive but extremely soft. Then…it seems that after coming home it changed and now it’s not soft anymore. Every time I wake up I feel so tired and my back is hurting. In the manual (cause this pillow has a manual) they say it’s normal…but how can it be normal?
Maybe I have to buy also the 2.000 Euro Tempur mattress?

Christmas in Italy

November 16th, 2007 by claudio

Christmas in Italy

Yesterday we bought the tickets to fly in Italy for Christmas. For Johanna it will be the first xmas outside Finland. For me it will be to hard to resist and keep on my diet: during Christmas the only things you can do is meeting friends that you haven’t seen for a lifetime and eat, eat, eat all the time.
We will be there just a few day: coming Sunday 23rd in the morning and leaving 26th in the evening.
Merry Christmas to everybody

New York City Marathon

November 4th, 2007 by claudio

The 2007 New York City Marathon just started and this year I’m following the event because one of my friend, Pierluigi from Cesena, is between the 38.000 runners.
I’m trying to follow the Marathon on the official website but the tracking webpage seems not to be updadted so often.

On the next days I promise to tell you more details about what happened in my life after my friend Pierluigi came to visit me in Finland last winter.
Just a short anticipation aboutĀ  my usual morning: from slow waking up and no breakfast became energetic breakfast and 15km running workout before lunch.
What about lunch and dinner? A daily war against the scale.
Maybe all of this is just to avoid the 30 years old crisis, but for sure I’ve never been that fit as I am now in the last 10 years.
So I just want to thanks for that my friend Pigi and wish him good luck till the end.
